For Gina Huerta, a career in public service began with a simple desire to help others. A native Sacramentan, Gina joined the State of California in 2006 as an E-Hire Program Technician before moving to the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security later that year. Her career eventually brought her to the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), where she now serves as an Incident Action Planning Leader.
In her role, Gina develops and updates Incident or Event Action Plans (IAPs) critical roadmaps that help emergency managers and responders coordinate operations and make informed decisions during emergencies.
Over the course of her career, Gina has supported more than 50 major disasters and emergencies, including wildfires, floods, earthquakes, and the COVID-19 pandemic. These experiences have reinforced the importance of preparation, teamwork, communication, and adaptability and shown her firsthand the difference effective planning can make for communities across California.
For Gina, the most rewarding part of her work is knowing that she is contributing to something bigger than herself: serving the people of California.
Outside of work, Gina enjoys spending time with her family. She is a proud mother of three and grandmother of eight. She also enjoys attending church and spending time with the people and activities that keep her grounded.
After nearly two decades of public service, Gina continues to bring experience, compassion, and a strong commitment to helping others with every emergency response.
